“Out in the West Texas town of El Paso”, you know the song, right? Born and raised in the Texas border town, Jessica always dreamed of a different life. With nothing more than a tank full of dreams, a black and white T.V., and stars in her eyes, she packed up and headed for the bright lights of Hollywood and a brand new start!
For the first few years in Hollywood, Jessica pursued a career in the Los Angeles fashion industry. Attending Brooks College, Jessica landed a job at a top international clothing company in L.A.'s famed downtown Fashion District. As it turned out, Fashion Design was not satisfying enough, there was a burning desire to pursue her aspirations in the entertainment business. Always having the ability to sing, dance and perform made the decision that much easier and living in L.A. made those dreams seem even more obtainable.
Jessica did her best to find as many avenues as possible to showcase her talents and while performing at a small club in Pasadena, CA she met an A&R guy from an L.A. based R&B label named Gill Garcia. Recognizing the potential, Gill brought her to his bosses who were looking for a female artist to push to top 40 radio. Falling in love with her voice, they agreed, Jessica was the girl! A few weeks later, Jessica signed an exclusive recording contract with Bass Heavy Records/Crib Universal. Seeing this as a perfect opportunity to show her versatility and range as an artist, she dove right in with tremendous enthusiasm. With influences in rock, country, jazz, and R&B, she set out to make the modern pop record she grew up singing and dancing to in Texas. The celebration was short-lived as the long arduous recording process began to take its toll. Feeling like her music was not being given priority as originally promised, she began to feel alienated at the label as other artists seemed to be stepping to the front of the line. Almost a year of waiting, her album was now on hold indefinitely. Contractually she was not able to even pursue any other avenues, even though the label had no immediate plans to finish recording or release anything in the near future. It was time to move on, so Jessica spent the next year trying to get released from her contract and sever ties with the label. In early 2001 her attorney was finally able to secure her release from the label, free and clear…. she was now able to move on to the next adventure!
Some of Jessica’s greatest memories as a young girl were driving around El Paso in her dad’s truck listening to old country songs from Charlie Rich, Ricky Skaggs, Dolly Parton and Don Williams, of course not knowing how much those songs would influence her life and future pursuits. Change is not always an easy thing, but during her battle to be released from her record label Jessica found a familiar outlet…she and Christian formed a country band and began to play around Los Angeles once every few months. Starting a new musical chapter they decided to pursue their love of country music full force, beginning their assault on the live California music scene. Jessica and Christian were expanding their fan base show by show, at any and every venue that would hire them from Los Angeles to Nashville. Soon they found themselves performing over 200 shows a year, this was now their lives, with the burning desire to be on the road and make country music, in their minds there was no turning back.
Fast forward a few years and two CD’s later, Jessica and Christian are still out there pursuing their musical dreams. Hard at work on their first full-blown “Nashville” project, Jessica is excited and happy where the road from El Paso has led. “Performing, writing, and recording, there’s nowhere else I want to be. I’ve been fortunate enough to do things that I never dreamed I would ever do, and I wouldn’t change a thing”, says Jessica. She continues to tour with the band and write her own music, with plans of going in the studio later in the year to record some of her own music as well. The opportunities are endless for an extremely talented artist like Jessica, listen to her smooth vocals and you too will become a fan.
